Executive Producers
Guided by Voyces — and Braneworld at large — is currently supported by two Executive Producers: the Kernel community and C.Y. Lee.
“Executive Producer” is a term borrowed from the film world that serves as an intuitive frame for a new brand of patronage.
The Executive Producer role is often characterized by hands-off financing driven by prestige, legacy, and cultural hegemony (though some EPs do seek financial returns or IP considerations). For these patrons, the ‘get’ is high-level godfathering – the rare opportunity to bankroll a vision and secure a front-row seat to the cultural zeitgeist.
I’ve written at length about the importance of resurrecting the centuries-old tradition of artist patronage:
The Medicis understood that art is a powerful tool for projecting cultural sophistication, and for enabling influence and legacy. To the illionaires of every letter: there are da Vincis in your midst, latent energy roiling in the cinemas of their minds, working 9-5’s so they can slowly build their Middle Earths, Biophilias, and Ziggy Stardusts. Many, alas, will succumb to the slow death of time, feeble support systems, and elusive momentum. But you have the power of induction, to actualize the worlds that you think should exist. You are the worldbringer.
My worldbringers get intimate, BTS access to Braneworld, which unfurls across music, a novel, this newsletter/conversation series, and a live performance framework called Meridians.
They also get their own Braneworld character, which will be featured in the emerging Braneworld narrative.
If you have the means, consider supporting an artist you believe in — be a worldbringer. There are few other means in today’s world to earn a living making art.
And if you’re interested in exploring that relationship with me, by all means, get in touch.
